Madum Lake, Freshwater lake in Himmerland, Denmark
Madum Lake is a freshwater body located within Rold Skov forest in Himmerland, stretching across a substantial area. The water reaches depths of up to 7.5 meters, surrounded entirely by woodland.
The lake formed during the ice age as a glacial kettle hole, originally surrounded by open heathland. Over time, the Rold Skov forest grew and transformed the landscape entirely.
Local stories speak of a sunken castle beneath the waters and a giant stone cast by an angry troll long ago. These tales shape how people connect with and remember this place today.
The lake has two designated swimming beaches offering direct water access for visitors. Parking and restroom facilities are available during the warmer months when people visit most often.
The water contains rare aquatic plants such as Lobelia dortmanna, which indicate exceptionally clean water quality. This botanical feature makes the lake a valuable habitat worth exploring closely.
