Rebild Bakker

Rebild Bakker is a protected nature park in the Rebild area with rolling heather-covered hills, numerous hiking trails, and natural springs surrounded by Denmark's largest forest, Rold Skov. The site offers more than 50 kilometers of mountain bike paths, streams for fishing, and water activities including canoeing through the landscape.

Danish-American immigrants purchased heathland here in 1911 and donated it to Denmark as a symbol of connection between the two nations. This gift represented an important moment in relations between Denmark and the United States.

The park hosts the largest Fourth of July celebration outside the United States, bringing thousands of visitors who gather for traditional music and speeches. This event connects the area's immigrant heritage with people who travel from all over to experience this special gathering.

The park is easily reached on foot, by bike, or by car and is open year-round for visitors. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and prepare for changeable weather, especially if you plan to fish or enjoy water activities.

Free-roaming sheep graze the landscape throughout the year, helping to maintain the heathland in its natural state. These animals play a practical role in protecting the land and its ecological balance.
