Store Økssø

Store Økssø is a forest lake in Rold Skov with brown-tinted waters caused by natural humus materials in the ecosystem. The water maintains low nutrient levels, which contributes to its clear appearance despite the darker coloration.

The lake has existed in its present form for centuries, serving local communities in Rebild Municipality as an important water source. Its ecological balance has remained stable over time, making it a long-standing feature of the region.
