Krenkerup, Manor house and castle in Guldborgsund Municipality, Denmark
Krenkerup is a manor house and castle on the island of Lolland, in Guldborgsund Municipality, built in a three-winged layout on a raised mound and encircled by a moat. The grounds around it include farmland and several outbuildings that are still in use today.
The estate appears in records from 1330 and changed hands several times through marriages among leading Danish noble families, among them the Gøye, Brahe, Rosenkrantz, and Reventlow-Hardenberg. Each transition brought new influences that shaped the buildings and grounds over the centuries.
A working brewery operates inside the old buildings, giving visitors a chance to see how beer is made using traditional methods. Next to it, a polo field is maintained and used for professional matches, the only full-size venue of its kind in Denmark.
The estate sits about 3 kilometers southwest of Sakskøbing on Lolland and can be visited through guided tours. It is worth planning ahead, as access to the grounds is not always open without prior arrangement.
Between 1815 and 1938, the estate was known as Hardenberg, a name tied to the Hardenberg-Reventlow countship that once governed it. This name has largely been forgotten today, even though it defined the property for well over a century.
