Tinnet Krat, Nature reserve in Vejle Municipality, Denmark
Tinnet Krat is a nature reserve in Vejle Municipality with forests, meadows, plantations, heathland, and oak groves. The area contains the springs of Denmark's two largest rivers, Skern Å and Gudenåen, which emerge only meters apart from each other.
An ancient road called Hærvejen passed through this valley for centuries as a main trade route connecting travelers across Jutland. This historic pathway shaped the regional importance of the area over time.
The name Gudenåen comes from a local folk tale about a boy named Gudar who took a girl named Else from this area long ago. This story remains part of how people connect with the river and the land today.
The Ballesbækgård Visitor Centre provides restrooms, fire pits, and barbecue facilities with marked trails designed for different mobility needs. These facilities make it easy for visitors with varying abilities to explore the grounds.
A remarkable detail is that the springs of the two largest rivers in Denmark emerge only meters apart from each other. This extremely close proximity of two major water systems is a geological rarity you find almost nowhere else.
