Tusculum

Tusculum is a neoclassical country house located on the north shore of Bagsværd Lake with white walls and perfectly balanced proportions. The residence sits on a property that extends across the road and includes landscaped gardens on both sides.

Construction of the house began in 1746 when Dutch brothers Joost and Gysbert van Hemert built it on land that was once part of the Frederiksdal estate. The location and fundamental design have remained unchanged through the centuries.

The house reflects how wealthy families in the 18th century created private retreats near Copenhagen with access to nature and water. Lakeside locations like this one were favored by the Danish upper class as places to escape urban life.

The house sits at Nybrovej 375 with direct access to the lakeshore and parking available nearby. The gardens on both sides of the road are visible from the public paths that circle the lake.

The house is named after an ancient Roman villa, reflecting the neoclassical tastes of its original owners who drew inspiration from classical antiquity. This practice of adopting classical names was widespread among wealthy builders of that era.
