Nyhavn 53, Historic building in Indre By, Denmark
The red-painted building at Nyhavn 53 stands four stories tall with white-painted window frames along the waterfront canal of Copenhagen.
Hans Jacob Tofte commissioned the construction of this residential structure in 1754, which received an additional fourth floor during renovations in 1874.
The building earned its nickname 'Madame Tofte's House' from a previous owner and hosted notable residents including composer Peter Arnold Heise.
Each floor contains one condominium unit, while the associated warehouse serves as headquarters for the Adventurers' Club of Denmark.
During the Gunboat War, merchant Nicolai Nisson operated a successful colonial goods and ship supply business from this location.
