Nyhavn 53, Historic building in Indre By, Denmark

Nyhavn 53 is a four-story residential building on the harbor front with a distinctive red facade and white-trimmed windows. Each floor contains a single dwelling unit, with an adjoining warehouse that serves as headquarters for a local adventurers' organization.

The building was commissioned in 1754 by Hans Jacob Tofte as a residential structure along the canal. A fourth floor was added during renovations in 1874, transforming its original three-story profile.

The building earned its nickname from a longtime female resident whose influence shaped its character over the years. It housed notable creative figures, including a composer who left his mark on Copenhagen's cultural life.

The building sits directly on Nyhavn, surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and shops that make it easily accessible and enjoyable to visit. The red facade is clearly visible from the street, and the location is convenient to reach by public transport.

During the Gunboat War, merchant Nicolai Nisson operated a successful colonial goods and ship supply business from this location. The building served as an important hub for maritime trade in Copenhagen during a turbulent period.
