Biskra Province, Administrative province in northeastern Algeria
Biskra Province is an administrative region in Algeria that stretches from arid plains in the south to mountain ranges in the north. The landscape features numerous oases dotted with palm groves that define the terrain.
The region was formally established as a province in 1974 after being separated from the Oasis department and Batna territory. Administrative boundaries were later adjusted in 1984 to reflect changing territorial needs.
The region draws on Berber traditions that shape everyday life and local craftsmanship in visible ways. Date farming remains deeply embedded in community identity and forms the backbone of local activity.
The provincial capital of Biskra connects to other major Algerian cities through established roads and railway networks. Multiple transportation options link the oases and towns within the region to larger centers.
The district of Tolga is renowned for its Deglet Nour dates, grown in extensive palm groves tended through traditional irrigation methods passed down for generations. These particular dates have a distinct flavor that sets them apart from varieties grown elsewhere.
