Albu Manor, Medieval manor in Järva County, Estonia
Albu Manor is a manor house in Järva County with baroque main architecture begun in 1717 and completed in 1742, featuring preserved medieval walls visible in the basement. A veranda added in 1888 and original baroque stoves with white and blue tiles complete the interior details.
The manor was first documented in 1282 and held significance in regional history throughout the centuries. Construction of the current building under Gustaf Otto Douglas marked a major renewal of the estate in the early 1700s.
The interior spaces display original wall decorations and baroque painted murals that were uncovered during restoration work. These artistic details reveal the wealth and creative tastes of those who lived here in earlier times.
The building operates as a school today and can be visited, though opening times vary by season. Summer months offer regular visiting hours, but visits at other times should be arranged in advance.
From 1718 to 1740 the property housed a specialized academy for children from noble families who had lost their parents. This institution made the place an important educational center for orphaned aristocratic children in the region.
