Käina Church, Gothic church ruins in Käina, Estonia
The remains of Käina Church, constructed between the 15th and 16th centuries, stand in the center of Käina village on Hiiumaa island.
The church served as the principal religious center of Hiiumaa until 1941, when it was destroyed during World War II, leaving only stone walls and architectural elements.
The preserved sun cross above the entrance and several tombstones with relief carvings from the 17th century represent significant Estonian religious art.
The church ruins, located at Hiiu mnt 20a in Käina, maintain their original stone walls and can accommodate visitors during daylight hours.
Before its destruction, the church contained an organ built by the father of Estonian composer Rudolf Tobias and three altars dedicated to different saints.
