Nabq Reserve, Nature reserve in South Sinai, Egypt

Nabq Reserve is a protected nature area along the Gulf of Aqaba that combines land and marine zones. The reserve contains desert landscapes, mangrove forests along the coast, and underwater coral reefs that support diverse animal and plant life.

The reserve was established in 1992 to protect the natural habitats and ecosystems of South Sinai. This decision came as the region needed safeguards against pressures from human activity and environmental changes.

Bedouin communities in the area practice traditional fishing and desert ways that have been passed down through generations. Visitors can watch these daily practices and learn how people here are deeply connected to both land and sea.

The best way to explore the area is through guided activities like snorkeling, bird watching, and mangrove tours that start from entry points near Sharm El-Sheikh. Local guides lead these trips and help visitors understand what they are seeing in the different habitats.

The reserve contains the northernmost mangrove forest in the Red Sea region, a rare habitat for this part of the world. These trees thrive in the dry surroundings and create a surprising bridge between desert and ocean.
