Citadel of Qaitbay, Citadel in Alexandria, Egypt
The Citadel of Qaitbay is a 15th-century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean sea coast.
It was established in 1477 AD by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay.
The Citadel is situated on the same place as the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Today, it houses a maritime museum with artifacts from the area and ancient times.
The Citadel has faced many wars but still stands as a prominent architectural and historic site.
