The park was built on the grounds of a former citadel constructed by Philip V of Spain after the War of Spanish Succession.

The park is open to the public and offers boat rentals on its small lake.
It features a stunning fountain designed by Josep Fontserè, with possible contributions from young Antoni Gaudí.
