Collado Villalba, Municipality in Madrid, Spain
Collado Villalba is a municipality in the Community of Madrid, located about forty kilometers northwest of the capital at the edge of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The settlement spreads across gentle slopes and plains, connecting residential neighborhoods with green spaces and roads leading toward the surrounding mountains.
The settlement began as a rural hamlet along old shepherd and trade routes connecting Madrid with the northern part of the peninsula. During the twentieth century the town grew through the expansion of the railway line and transformed into a residential area for commuters from the nearby capital.
The name Collado Villalba combines the word for a mountain pass with the family name of a former landowner, reflecting the geography at the foot of the Sierra. Local residents today use the public squares and markets where town life unfolds, giving a sense of the rhythm of a modern commuter hub.
Visitors reach the town by train or bus, with rail connections running frequently to offer easy access to the capital and other towns in the region. Those walking around will find paths along streets and trails leading into the nearby mountains, suitable for hiking and exploring the foothills.
On the southern edge of the town lies a forest park with treetop walkways and zip lines that covers several hectares and draws day trippers from the city. The facility uses the natural slope of the land and offers activities among pines and oaks with views toward the Sierra.
