Quermançó Castle

The castle stands on a remote hill at 120 meters elevation, with remnants of thick stone walls and a central tower overlooking the Empordà region.

First documented in 1078, the castle served as an archive for the county of Empúries before facing destruction by Marshal Suchet's troops in 1814.

The castle structure represents vernacular architecture methods of Catalonia, incorporating local building techniques and materials from multiple construction periods.

The fortress remains are accessible through a walking path from the N-260 road, though interior access is restricted due to private ownership.

Salvador Dalí proposed transforming the castle into a natural organ played by regional winds and installing a rhinoceros in its basement.
