The Basilica de Santa Maria features three naves with nine ogive vaults supported by pillars, incorporating rainbow arches and ribbed vaults that meet at keystones.
Construction of this Gothic structure began in 1261 under architect Ramón de Xartres, replacing a Romanesque church from 1007 that was consecrated in 1064.
The marble portal and alabaster altarpiece demonstrate the artistic excellence of medieval craftsmanship and religious architecture in the Costa Brava region.
The basilica maintains seasonal hours, opening from 9 AM to 9 PM during July and August, with reduced hours during other months of the year.
The bell tower rises 36 meters high on the north side, displaying Lombard architectural characteristics across its five-story structure dating from the 12th century.
