Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses

Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses is a Romanesque structure featuring a Latin cross layout with a single nave and multiple apses forming the main church space. The building shows typical medieval architecture with a central chapel and an ambulatory corridor visitors can walk through.

The monastery was founded in 885 to serve as a community for the daughter of Count Wilfred. It became the only female monastery of its region and played an important role in early Catalan religious life.
