Palacio de los Gosálvez

Palacio de los Gosálvez is a French-influenced mansion built near the Júcar River in Casas de Benítez. The structure spans roughly 520 square meters with multiple rooms and numerous windows showing the generous scale of the building.

The building was created in 1902 by architect Luis Sáinz de los Terreros as a statement of modern design for its time. During the Spanish Civil War, it served as a maternity facility and shelter for displaced children fleeing the conflict.

The palace reflects how Spanish aristocrats lived in the early 20th century, with its marble floors and decorated walls showing the tastes of the wealthy. These details reveal what mattered to them and how they displayed their status.

The interior is closed to visitors due to structural damage and safety concerns, but the exterior architecture and surrounding industrial remnants remain visible. You can view the building from outside and get a sense of its original design and the complex that once occupied the area.

The garden once contained plants imported from the Americas, brought specifically for this location. A special fountain was a gift from the wife of Russian Tsar Nicholas II, showing the international connections of the family who owned it.
