Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la O, Catholic church in Rota, Spain.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la O is a Catholic church in Rota blending Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements in its design. It features a central nave flanked by side chapels, all topped by a distinctive bell tower with two-colored ceramic tiles on the spire.

Construction began in the early 16th century under the leadership of Duke Rodrigo Ponce de León and was completed in 1537. The bell tower underwent reconstruction in 1744, when it received the distinctive ceramic tile covering visible today.

The church is named after Mary and carries her protection in the local community. Inside, ornate wooden choir stalls decorated with figures of apostles and saints reflect the devotion that shaped this space over centuries.

The church is located at Plaza de Bartolomé Pérez and remains an active parish church in daily use. Keep in mind that regular Sunday services are held, so visiting times may be limited during these occasions.

The choir stalls were individually crafted from cedar and mahogany between 1733 and 1736 with intricate carved details. Most visitors focus on the architecture and overlook these handmade wooden pieces, which are truly remarkable examples of period craftsmanship.
