The ancient city of Lacipo includes defensive walls, urban structures, and two water cisterns situated on a strategic hilltop location.
Between the 1st century BC and 2nd century AD, Lacipo functioned as a military settlement controlling routes between coastal areas and inland territories.
Archaeological excavations at Lacipo have revealed pottery, coins, and tools that demonstrate the commercial connections between Roman settlements in southern Spain.
The archaeological site received protection status as Cultural Heritage Monument in 1996, with reference codes RI-55-0000521 and RI-51-0008036.
A Hispanic-Visigothic necropolis established at the site indicates continuous occupation after the decline of Roman structures.
