Castell de Montbui

Castell de Montbui combines architectural elements from two periods: Romanesque and Gothic styles, showing how it was built and rebuilt over time. Thick stone walls and tower remains stand on a hilltop at about 540 meters in elevation.

The fortress was founded in 1059 through an alliance between Mir Geribert and Guisla, becoming the seat of the Barony of Montbui. It remained a center of power for the region across many centuries.

The castle served as the administrative and symbolic center of the Barony, shaping how local communities organized themselves around this stronghold. Its presence anchored daily life and territorial identity for centuries.

The best approach is to follow marked hiking trails starting from Ana Mogas street that wind through the surrounding landscape. These paths connect to other historical sites in the area, allowing visitors to explore multiple landmarks in one trip.

From its hilltop position, the castle offers sweeping views that reveal why medieval builders chose this location so carefully. The remaining tower sections still demonstrate the defensive techniques used to monitor and protect the surrounding lands.
