Santa Maria de Cadaqués

The Santa Maria de Cadaqués features a single nave with lateral chapels, a polygonal tower, and pure white exterior walls facing the Mediterranean Sea.

After Saracen pirates destroyed the original 13th-century structure in 1543, the church underwent reconstruction incorporating Gothic architectural elements in the 16th century.

The main altar displays an elaborate Baroque decoration made of gilded wood, featuring maritime motifs and a representation of the sailor who funded its creation.

Located at Portal de Mont 1, the church stands at the highest point of Cadaqués, requiring visitors to navigate through narrow, steep streets.

Nine smaller gilded wood altar decorations complement the main Baroque altarpiece, making this church a repository of religious maritime artistry.
