The Biblioteca Municipal de Bidebarrieta occupies a large eclectic architecture building with multiple reading rooms and study spaces in central Bilbao.
The library opened in 1890 in a building designed by architect Severino de Achúcarro y Mocoroa, initially housing the cultural society El Sitio.
This municipal institution maintains a collection of over 93,000 books, periodicals, and multimedia materials available for public consultation and borrowing.
The library welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with WiFi access.
The building suffered extensive damage during the 1983 Bilbao floods, leading to a five-year closure for complete renovation works.
