Can Casasayas, Modernist apartment building in Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Can Casasayas is a modernist residential building with two symmetrical wavy facades facing each other across Carrer de Santacilia. The structure features parabolic arches and metal columns, while upper levels contain apartments accessed through the main entrance and the ground floor preserves original architectural elements.
The building was commissioned by Josep Casasayas Casajuana in the early 1900s and initially built by Francesc Roca. Construction was later completed under Guillem Reynes's supervision.
The facades display ornaments such as ferns, acanthus leaves, and butterflies that are typical of the Art Nouveau movement. These decorative details appear on the capitals and iron elements throughout the structure, shaping how the building presents itself to the street.
The ground floor is publicly accessible and displays the original metal columns and structural elements of the building. The residential apartments in upper levels are private spaces, but the architectural details are clearly visible from street level.
The two facades were originally designed to connect via a bridge across the street, but this plan never received official approval. This unrealized scheme reveals the ambitious vision that the original client had for the building.
