Balneari Montagut, Art Nouveau spa building in Campelles, Spain.
Balneari Montagut is a spa building in Art Nouveau style in Campelles with a U-shaped layout, a ground floor, and three upper levels. The structure combines 19th-century architecture with modernist design elements throughout its interior spaces.
The spa facility was founded in 1705 and was called Hostal de Banys from 1720 onward. The complex acquired its north and west wings around 1880.
The building bears the name of a family historically connected to the site and displays a mix of Art Nouveau and historicist elements reflecting Catalan building traditions. The architecture speaks to an era when such spa facilities served as important gathering places for the community.
The building has been closed since 1998 for safety reasons due to its proximity to the busy N-260 road. Currently, visitors can only view the exterior of the structure from outside the site.
During the Spanish Civil War, the building served as a hospital for Republican soldiers, and inscriptions from that period remain visible on some interior walls today. These marks tell the story of the turbulent years that shaped the country and this location.
