Villa Amparo, Rocafort, Mediterranean mansion in Rocafort, Spain.
Villa Amparo is a Mediterranean mansion in Rocafort featuring traditional Valencian architecture with ornate details and stone facades. The property sits on spacious grounds with gardens surrounding the building.
The mansion gained importance between 1936 and 1938 when Spanish poet Antonio Machado lived there after being relocated from Madrid during the Civil War. While staying at the property, Machado wrote several significant works including the elegy 'El crimen fue en Granada' for Federico García Lorca.
The name Villa Amparo comes from the family who built the property. The rooms display details typical of wealthy homes in the region.
The property is located at Avenida Dr. Eugenio López Trigo 7 and was acquired by the Valencian Government in 2019. It is currently not open for public visits.
A metal silhouette stands in front of Villa Amparo's entrance based on a 1937 drawing by Ramón Gaya depicting Antonio Machado. This artistic installation honors the famous poet who once lived and worked within these walls.
