Parque Carlos III, Park in Cádiz, Spain

Parque Carlos III is a protected public park in Cádiz, listed in the General Catalog of the Historical Heritage of Andalusia. Seen from above, it has a roughly triangular shape organized around a central axis, with a small fountain near the entrance, covered walkways, and several small plazas.

The park was laid out in 1927 on land that had previously been a walled military area at the edge of the city. It was designed by local architect Juan Talavera y Heredia, who also redesigned other nearby gardens in Cádiz around the same time.

The park takes its name from King Charles III, an 18th-century Spanish monarch known for urban reforms across the country. The tile work on the benches and paths comes from the Triana neighborhood of Seville, giving the space a look that is typical of Andalusian garden design.

The park is within walking distance of other points of interest in central Cádiz, and its main entrance faces the entrance to Parque Genovés, making it easy to find. It is open to everyone at any time and fits naturally into a walk along the waterfront.

The park was built directly over the footprint of old military fortifications that once protected this part of Cádiz, though nothing of that structure is visible today. Its layout mirrors that of the nearby Alameda Clara Campoamor because both were designed by the same architect as a connected pair, something most visitors do not realize.
