Taivassalo Church

Taivassalo Church is a medieval stone building with three aisles and walls covered with extensive murals from the 1460s. These paintings demonstrate professional artistry and fill the interior with scenes and figures from that period.

Construction began between 1425 and 1440, making it one of only three medieval stone churches in Finland dedicated to the Holy Cross. This early founding connects it to the country's oldest religious buildings.

The church holds a notable triumph crucifix above the altar that represents one of Finland's earliest and most carefully preserved religious artworks. This carving shows the skilled craftsmanship and devotion that shaped the sacred space over centuries.

A modern Parish Centre from 2020 provides administrative and community spaces adjacent to the historic building. This newer addition helps visitors understand the church's current role in the community today.

The rococo organ front from 1767 remains completely unchanged even though the instrument behind it has been replaced several times. This unusual preservation creates an interesting layer of time where different centuries meet within the same frame.
