Raahen Tornitalo

Raahen Tornitalo is a 14-story residential building that rises 55 meters and stands as a landmark in central Raahe. The lower floors contain apartments for residents, while the upper levels originally housed a water tank that served the city's needs.

This structure was built in 1958 during Finland's post-war rebuilding phase and initially served both as housing and a water tower. The dual purpose reflected the practical needs of a developing city.

The structure shows how residents combined everyday living with a functional piece of city infrastructure in one building. This practical approach shaped how Finns thought about urban space during the post-war years.

The water tank in the upper levels was decommissioned in 2019 and is no longer operational for visitors to access. The building is a private residential structure best viewed from the street or nearby public areas.

A Chinese restaurant operated in the top floors from 2008 until spring 2021, serving food with views across the city below. This unexpected use of a former water tower created a memorable dining experience for visitors.
