Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité, National police force in Paris, France
The Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité is a mobile police branch within the French National Police, deployed throughout the country for public order operations and emergency assistance. This force includes general intervention companies alongside specialized mountain rescue, underwater, and motorway patrol teams.
This unit was formed in December 1944 shortly after the liberation of France to ensure internal security during the postwar period. It replaced earlier formations and evolved into a nationwide intervention force with an expanding range of duties.
The National Police Orchestra, consisting of 90 professional musicians, performs at official ceremonies and represents the organization at international events.
Units are stationed across the country and deploy during major gatherings, protests, or emergencies when local forces require support. Visitors typically notice their presence at large public events or during heightened security situations.
Members complete additional training in areas such as mountain rescue or water rescue and work as lifeguards at beaches during the summer months. This versatility allows rapid response to a wide range of situations across the country.
