The village of Maroilles extends over 22 square kilometers between the rivers Sambre and Helpe Mineure in the Nord department of Hauts-de-France.
The Benedictine abbey of Maroilles, established in 652 by Count Chombert of Famars, shaped the development of the village until its destruction in 1789.
The Church of Saint-Humbert, constructed in 1735, preserves artifacts from the original abbey, including an ornate carved organ case.
The town hall of Maroilles operates weekdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, with Saturday morning hours except during summer.
Two medieval fortifications once protected Maroilles before their demolition in the 17th century, marking the village's strategic importance.
