Stade de la Beaujoire, Multi-purpose sports venue in Nantes, France
Stade de la Beaujoire is a multi-purpose stadium in Nantes, France, with seating for over 37,000 spectators beneath a hexagonal roof. The four main stands are fully covered and offer views from all sides of the pitch.
Architect Berdje Agopyan designed the stadium, which opened in 1984 just in time for the European Football Championship that same year. Since then, it has regularly hosted international matches and has established itself as an important sports venue in France.
The name honors Louis Fonteneau, who led the local football club for almost two decades and shaped the sporting life of the city. Today, fans gather here for home matches and occasionally attend large concerts in the same space.
Around the stadium, visitors find parking spaces for about 3,000 cars, including reserved areas for club members and accessible entrances. On match days, arriving well in advance is recommended as the area becomes heavily frequented.
The playing surface measures 117 by 78 meters (384 by 256 feet) and uses a special turf technology where natural grass blades are woven with artificial fibers. This combination ensures longer durability during frequent use for matches and events.
