Château de la Verrerie, Renaissance castle in Oizon, France

Château de la Verrerie is a Renaissance castle located near a large lake surrounded by forests in the Loire Valley region. The structure features an elegant gallery that wraps around the building, creating covered walkways and sheltered spaces throughout the grounds.

Construction of the castle took place between 1495 and 1500 during the early Renaissance period. The property changed hands several times, including ownership by the Stuart family and later by King Louis XIV, who granted it to one of his court favorites.

The castle organizes theatrical visits and classical music concerts called Les Rencontres Musicales de la Verrerie in its acoustically designed spaces.

The castle sits in a forested area and is easily reached from the nearby town. Comfortable shoes are recommended since exploring the grounds and walking around the lake will take time.

The name La Verrerie derives from a former glass-making factory that once operated on this site, reflecting the region's artisanal past. This industrial heritage connection remains a distinguishing aspect of the castle's story.
