Château de Villiers-le-Bâcle

Château de Villiers-le-Bâcle is a Louis XIII style château featuring a brick facade, slate roof, and stone masonry arranged across three stories. Supporting structures on the grounds include stables, a greenhouse, and an orangery that served estate functions.

Michel Lucas, an associate of King Louis XIII, constructed the château around 1650 on the remains of the earlier Presles manor house that had belonged to Françoise Lombard. The building integrated a new architectural design with the established heritage of the location.

The Biver family documented everyday moments at the estate through glass plate photographs, capturing farm work and local celebrations during the Belle Époque period. These visual records offer visitors a window into how people actually lived on the property.

The château opens during summer months for guided tours and functions as a venue for private events and gatherings. Visitors should check ahead to confirm opening times and plan their visit accordingly.

The estate encompasses substantial woodland areas positioned between the Saclay plateau and the slopes of the Mérantaise valley. This setting provides visitors with a varied landscape where natural and cultivated elements meet.
