World Heritage Centre, International organization headquarters in Place de Fontenoy, Paris, France
World Heritage Centre is an international organization headquarters in Place de Fontenoy, Paris. The Y-shaped structure rises seven floors with glass exterior walls enclosing more than 650 office spaces.
The organization moved its headquarters from London to Paris after the Second World War, initially using Hotel Majestic as a temporary location. The current building was completed and occupied in the late 1950s.
Member states have donated artworks that are displayed throughout the interior, embodying global cooperation through visual expression. Visitors encounter objects and wall installations that reflect different artistic traditions from all continents.
The main lobby offers a bookstore, travel information desk, and gift shop for visitors. An underground cinema complements the publicly accessible areas on the ground floor.
The conference area features a folded copper roof spanning the oval assembly hall, providing distinctive acoustic properties. The architecture recalls an accordion, extending rhythmically across the structure.
