Château d'Estillac

Château d'Estillac is a fortified castle featuring a trapezoidal layout with a triangular courtyard, surrounded by defensive towers and thick walls. The structure combines 13th-century elements with later additions including bastioned walls that reflect different construction periods.

Blaise de Monluc, a French military leader, inherited the property in 1544 and undertook major renovations inspired by his Italian military campaigns. The new fortifications with bastioned walls demonstrate how military engineering of that time influenced the castle's design.

The castle kitchens display features from the 14th century, offering insight into how people prepared food and lived during medieval times. These preserved spaces show the daily routines and work that took place within the walls.

The castle is private property located in Lot-et-Garonne and requires prior authorization before visiting. Plan ahead and arrange permission with the owners before making the trip.

A white marble cenotaph with a partially damaged effigy stands on the enclosure wall, commemorating Blaise de Monluc. This monument preserves the memory of the military leader and his connection to the estate.
