Château de Merlemont

Château de Merlemont is a Renaissance fortress in Warluis with characteristic features including two corbelled turrets on the north side and a southwest tower. Inside, a vaulted basement room reflects the building style of that era.

Early fortifications were built in the 13th century, and around 1530 Louis de Courtils added a new wing. Changes continued to be made until the 19th century.

The name comes from the Merle, a small stream nearby that shaped the landscape for centuries. You can still sense how this connection to the surrounding land influenced the daily life of those who lived here.

The location sits on flat ground and is visible from all sides, which makes finding your way around straightforward. Keep in mind that access may vary depending on the season and weather conditions.

The west facade was rebuilt in 1965 in neoclassical style after bombing damage from 1944. This reconstruction shows how the castle took on its modern appearance.
