Montagne de Beynes

Montagne de Beynes is a summit in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence that reaches 976 meters in elevation. From the top, you can see across the Asse Valley and the surrounding peaks that frame the landscape.

This peak formed during the Jurassic period through tectonic movements that shaped the Pre-Alps landscape. These ancient geological forces created the foundation for the terrain you see today.

Local shepherds maintain the ancient practice of seasonal grazing on the mountain slopes, continuing a tradition that spans multiple generations.

The hike starts from the Col de la Croix parking area and follows a circular route that takes about six hours to complete. Bring proper footwear and water, as the trail passes through both open and forested sections.

The lower slopes and middle sections of the mountain are covered by Austrian black pines, which create a distinctive forest character. These dark-needled trees give the woodland a special appearance that sets it apart from surrounding areas.
