Domaine de Montauger

Domaine de Montauger is a château set within 15 hectares of natural space in the Essonne valley, featuring meadows, orchards, and wetland areas. The estate combines a historic building with open grounds designed for walking and exploration.

The castle evolved from earlier medieval buildings and took its present form during the 18th century. Its location in the Essonne valley positioned it as an important connection between urban and rural areas.

The environmental center inside the castle hosts rotating exhibitions about local nature and biodiversity, offering talks and tours throughout the year. Visitors experience directly how the land is used to teach people about the region's living world.

The park is free to enter and open on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from morning to early evening. Wear sturdy shoes since paths cross meadows and wet areas with varying ground conditions.

The estate maintains a heritage orchard with about 100 traditional trees including rare varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and plums. This old plantation shows how fruit growing was practiced in the region long ago.
