Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a religious building featuring a Latin cross plan, a square bell tower, and arched façade windows in Romanesque Revival style. Its interior is arranged for worship services, with side aisles and a choir area typical of this architectural approach.

The building was constructed in 1898 and initially served as a chapel for Discalced Carmelites. After they were forced to leave France in 1901, the structure changed hands several times before becoming home to the Spanish Catholic Mission.

The church functions as a center for the Spanish Catholic community in Paris, welcoming believers from Spain and Latin America. It remains an important gathering place where these communities come together for worship and to maintain their religious traditions.

During World War II, four Claretian priests saved approximately 155 Jewish refugees by issuing false baptismal documents from the church. These courageous actions remained largely hidden from history until survivors shared their stories publicly.
