Bjelovar Cathedral

Bjelovar Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Teresa of Avila, is a baroque church with twin towers that rise symmetrically above the city center on Eugen Kvaternik Square. The interior can hold many worshippers, and beneath the building lie underground corridors that were originally constructed to serve as burial spaces.

Construction of the cathedral began in 1761 and the main structure was finished in 1770, with the tower added in 1774. The building received its cathedral status in 2009 through a papal declaration, marking a significant change in its religious standing.
