The Cathedral of Saint Teresa of Avila stands at the center of Bjelovar with its classical baroque architecture and symmetrical twin towers reaching toward the sky.
Czech brothers Hubert and Ignatius Admiring initiated the cathedral construction in 1761, completing the main structure in 1770 and adding the tower in 1774.
The cathedral holds regular services in the Roman Rite tradition and functions as the main religious center for the Diocese of Bjelovar-Križevci.
Located on Eugen Kvaternik Square, the cathedral maintains space for 1000 worshippers and contains underground corridors originally designed for burials.
The structure earned cathedral status in 2009 through Pope Benedict XVI's declaration, making it the most recent cathedral designation in Croatia.
