Wani, city and a municipal council in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra, India
Wani is a city in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra, known as the Black Diamond City because of its coal mining operations. The city sits in the eastern part of the district, is crossed by the Nirguada River, and borders Chandrapur district.
The city was formerly called Wun and served as the district headquarters of Berar Province during British rule. Stone Age tools have been found in the area, and rock-cut temples such as Rangnath Swami Mandir reflect a long history of settlement and worship.
The city is connected by road and rail to nearby towns including Yavatmal, Chandrapur, and Amravati. Auto rickshaws are the common way to travel locally, while the railway station handles both passenger services and cargo movement.
The city earned its Black Diamond City nickname from coal mining operations run by Western Coalfields Limited across several mines in the area. Beyond coal, limestone quarrying also takes place nearby and contributes to the local industrial base.
