Mandi International Airport, Proposed international airport in Mandi District, India
The planned Mandi International Airport will feature a 3,150-meter runway and facilities designed to accommodate ATR 72 aircraft in Himachal Pradesh.
The Himachal Pradesh government initiated plans for an international airport in Mandi district's Balh valley, presenting the proposal to the Union Civil Aviation ministry in 2008.
The airport project aims to connect the mountainous region of Himachal Pradesh, where current airports in Kullu, Kangra, and Shimla only handle small aircraft.
The construction requires 698 acres of land at Nag Chala, with the Airports Authority of India holding a 51 percent stake in the development joint venture.
Environmental impact assessments and Obstacle Limitation Surfaces surveys were completed in 2019 to ensure the airport's integration with the surrounding landscape.
