Mandi International Airport

Mandi International Airport is a planned airport in Himachal Pradesh with a 3,150-meter runway designed to handle aircraft like the ATR 72. The development involves the Airports Authority of India as a major stakeholder in the project on approximately 698 acres of land at Nag Chala.

Himachal Pradesh government initiated plans for an international airport in the Balh valley of Mandi district, presenting the proposal to India's civil aviation ministry in 2008. The project reflects decades of efforts to improve air connectivity in this mountainous region.

The airport project aims to connect the mountainous region of Himachal Pradesh, where current airports in Kullu, Kangra, and Shimla only handle small aircraft.

The planned facility will be developed on mountainous terrain in a region with limited existing air connectivity, with environmental assessments addressing the site. Visitors should note the project remains under development and current accessibility may be limited.

Environmental impact assessments and Obstacle Limitation Surface surveys were completed in 2019 to ensure integration with the surrounding landscape. These technical studies show how the planned airport will fit into the region's challenging topography.
