Plasco Building, Office skyscraper in District 12, Tehran, Iran
Plasco stands in District 12 of Tehran and is an office tower of 42 meters (138 feet) in height with a modern steel frame. The 16 floors house shops on the ground level and commercial offices on the upper levels.
Construction began in 1958 and was completed in 1962, creating the first steel-framed high-rise in Tehran. A fire in January 2017 led to its collapse, and rebuilding was completed in 2021.
The name honors Habib Elghanian, a businessman who realized the project as a symbol of postwar progress. The building served as a model for other developers who wanted to use steel and glass in the downtown area.
The rebuilt structure stands at the same location and houses business spaces and retail in central Tehran. Public areas are accessible to visitors during standard office hours.
A memorial in Behesht-e Zahra cemetery commemorates 20 firefighters who died while fighting the blaze. Their names are engraved on plaques that draw visitors from across the city.
