Saint Mary Greek Church

Saint Mary Greek Church is a place of worship built in the Pahlavi style and sits where Taleghani and Mofatteh streets meet. The building is marked by two large domes and blends Orthodox and Persian architectural design.

The building was constructed in 1951 to serve a growing Greek community seeking a place for worship in Tehran. After the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the community changed greatly, yet the church continues to exist today.

The community gathers here for regular Orthodox services and religious celebrations that keep Greek traditions alive in the city. The space demonstrates how Greek believers practice their faith while living among people with different religious beliefs.

The church stands in a central district of Tehran where the streets are easy to find. Visitors should note that during prayer times the space is in active use and the interior may not always be open to tourists depending on services.
