Rionero in Vulture

Rionero in Vulture is a commune in Potenza province, situated on the slopes of Monte Vulture. The town has gained recognition for its local mineral waters and wine and agricultural products from the surrounding hills.

The settlement began in 1152 as Santa Maria di Rivonigro under the authority of the bishop of Rapolla. It gained administrative independence in 1811, marking a shift in its governance.

The Mother Church of San Marco Evangelista dominates the town center with its Baroque facade and ornate plaster work. This structure reflects how the local community expressed its faith and social values through religious architecture.

The town sits at around 643 meters elevation in a wine-producing region where you can find local products. The surrounding landscape offers good opportunities for walking and exploring.
