Oppido Mamertina

Oppido Mamertina is a municipality situated on the slopes of Aspromonte in Reggio Calabria, positioned at 342 meters above sea level. The landscape is characterized by ancient olive groves and Mediterranean vegetation that blanket the mountainside.

The settlement originated with the Mamertines, Campanian mercenaries who served under Agathocles of Syracuse in the third century BC and established themselves in this region. This early occupation shaped the area's development for centuries to come.
