Rosarno

Rosarno is a town in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria situated on an elevated terrace. Olive groves and vineyards surround it, and the Mesima River borders the settlement while it overlooks the Gioia Tauro plain below.

The settlement corresponds to the ancient Greek city of Medma established in the 4th century BC. Artifacts from that era are displayed in the local Archaeological Museum of Medma.

The Clock Tower in the main square and the Church of Purgatory define the character of the old town center. These landmarks serve as gathering points where daily community life unfolds.

The town is accessible via the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway and sits at an elevation of around 60 meters. Exploring the surrounding agricultural areas will give you a sense of how the landscape shapes life here.

In 2012, this municipality became the first in Italy to receive compensation as a civil party in a mafia trial. This legal milestone reflected the community's efforts to confront organized crime.
