Castle Payrsberg, Medieval castle in Nals, Italy

Castle Payrsberg stands on elevated ground west of Nals, overlooking the Sirmiano River canyon with its fortified walls and Gothic architecture.

The Counts von Payr constructed the castle during the 13th century while serving as ministerialis for the Counts of Eppan in South Tyrol.

The castle features a 13th-century donjon with a four-meter wide semicircular window and displays the Payrsberg family emblem dated 1560 above its entrance.

Visitors can reach the castle by following signpost number 9 from Nals, with the walking path taking approximately one hour to complete.

The Malpaga family currently maintains the castle as both a residence and workplace, incorporating a farmhouse into its medieval structure.
