Weißhorn, Mountain summit in Fleimstaler Alps, Italy.
Weißhorn is a mountain summit in the Fleimstaler Alps reaching 2317 meters above sea level. A distinctive north-south ridge divides the landscape between the Regglberg plateau on one side and the Eggental valley on the other.
The mountain takes its name from the white Sarldolomite rock that forms its summit, distinguishing it from the neighboring Schwarzhorn. This distinctive white stone has defined the peak's appearance for ages.
The Trudner geological fault line runs between Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn, marking a significant uplift of over 1000 meters in the mountain formation.
Multiple routes lead to the summit, with the path from Jochgrimm climbing through meadows and mountain pine forests toward the peak. Weather conditions can change rapidly at this elevation, so checking forecasts beforehand helps with planning.
The western flank of the mountain marks the start of Bletterbach Canyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site with striking geological layers. This gorge displays millions of years of Earth's history exposed in its rock walls.
